Two-Tone Kitchen Remodel in Merrick, NY

This Merrick kitchen went from golden oak raised-panel cabinets to a two-tone shaker kitchen: white uppers, charcoal lowers, white quartz counters and a gray picket-tile backsplash. Recessed lights replaced the old ceiling fixture, and a tall pantry cabinet now sits beside the refrigerator. The L-shaped layout and the pass-through over the sink stayed where they were. Completed July 2026.

What We Changed

Every cabinet was replaced. The uppers are white shaker with bar pulls, and the lowers are a deep charcoal shaker, which keeps the room bright at eye level and hides wear at the floor. A full-height white pantry cabinet was added at the end of the sink run, next to the refrigerator.

The old stone-look counters and backsplash came out. White quartz went in with an undermount stainless sink and a matte black pull-down faucet. The backsplash is a glossy gray elongated hexagon, or picket, tile. It runs up to the uppers and wraps the pass-through opening, so the opening now reads as part of the design instead of a hole in the wall.

The surface-mounted ceiling light was replaced with recessed LED lighting across the room.
