Exterior Renovations in Nassau & Suffolk County Curb Appeal That Holds Up

The outside of your home is what every neighbor, every visitor, and every potential buyer sees before they get to anything else. An outdated facade, a plain entry, or worn siding tells a story about the whole house whether that’s fair or not.

OZ General Contracting has been renovating Long Island home exteriors for 49 years. We’ve done everything from a single portico installation to complete home facade replacements. We build what your house needs — and we build it to last on Long Island’s weather, not just look good in a photo.

What Makes OZ Different

Porticos, Columns & Entry Upgrades

A well-built portico with columns changes the entire look of a Long Island Colonial or Cape. It frames the front entry, adds architectural interest, and dramatically improves the first impression your home makes. We design and build custom porticos in wood, PVC, or composite depending on your preference and the existing style of the house.

Column work includes round columns, square columns, craftsman-style posts, and decorative pilasters. All our exterior millwork is built for Long Island’s humidity, freeze-thaw cycles, and salt air if you’re close to the water.

Common entry upgrade work:

Siding Replacement & Facade Upgrades

Siding does two things: it protects your home’s structure from water, and it defines how your house looks from the street. Old, cracked, or faded siding does neither job well.

We install vinyl siding, fiber cement (HardiePlank), and engineered wood siding depending on the project. For homes in areas with coastal exposure Bellmore, Seaford, Massapequa, and other South Shore communities we recommend materials specifically rated for moisture and salt air.

Full facade upgrades go beyond siding: we can add stone veneer panels to the base of your home, install architectural shutters, replace all exterior trim, and rebuild the front walkway if the hardscape needs to match the new look.

Siding and facade services:

Windows, Doors & Exterior Hardware

New windows and a new entry door are two of the highest-return exterior upgrades on Long Island. They improve energy performance, reduce street noise, and update the look of the home without a major structural project.

We install energy-rated windows in wood, fiberglass, and vinyl frames to match your home’s architecture. Entry doors, garage doors, storm doors, and sliding patio doors are all part of what we handle on exterior renovation projects.

Full Exterior Facelifts

Some of our exterior projects combine multiple elements into a single coordinated renovation: new portico, new siding, new windows, new front door, new stoop, new outdoor lighting. When the work is planned and executed together, the result looks like it was always part of the original design rather than a series of separate upgrades.

We’ve done this type of full-exterior work on colonials, split levels, ranches, and Capes across Nassau County. We can show you photos from completed projects in your neighborhood at your consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between a portico and a covered porch?
A portico is a covered entry structure directly at your front door — typically with columns or posts and a roof section above the door. It’s smaller and more architectural than a porch. A covered porch extends across more of the front facade and is meant for outdoor seating. We build both.
For most Long Island homes, fiber cement (HardiePlank) and premium vinyl are both solid choices. Fiber cement holds paint better and has a cleaner look but costs more. Vinyl is lower maintenance over the long term. For homes near the water in Bellmore, Seaford, or Massapequa, we usually recommend fiber cement or a moisture-rated engineered wood product. We’ll give you an honest recommendation based on your specific house.
Structural exterior changes — porticos with footings, new windows, door replacements that change the opening size — require permits in Nassau County. Siding replacement on the existing structure generally does not, but rules vary by village and township. We handle the permit assessment and applications for every project.
Curb appeal improvements consistently return 70 to 100% of their cost in Nassau County’s real estate market. A dated 1970s exterior on a house with a renovated interior is one of the most common situations where buyers discount their offer significantly. Getting the outside to match the inside often produces a better return per dollar than adding another bathroom.
A portico project takes 1 to 3 weeks. A full siding replacement takes 1 to 2 weeks. A complete exterior renovation combining multiple elements typically runs 3 to 6 weeks. We give you a firm timeline at your estimate.
